With the help of a start up fund we developed a project that will provide boxes/bags of sanitary ware (towels/tampons) and up to 2/3 goodies to support female care leavers in Northamptonshire. The project has been planned with a local Care Leaver.
The Jeevan Project has now extended across a new local authority and into Central Bedfordshire Council! The boxes will be distributed on request directly from the Young Women, Accommodation Providers, Youth Professionals and Social Care Staff. |
Whilst we know periods are a natural part of life, for some individuals, that time of the month is dreaded due to the lack of finances towards period necessities. No one should have to worry about how they can go about their life on their period without the funds to buy period products.
There is little research correlating care leavers and period poverty, however through the experiences of our work at Right Resolution, we have witnessed period poverty for Young Women in care first hand. Furthermore, research available suggests young people that are Not in Education, Employment and Training, or have lack of support from families are at higher risk of period poverty. We hope to provide comfort and stability for care leavers with our Jeevan project, enabling young women to reach their full potential and eliminating worries around menstruating.
