Joe's Autobox Academy
Joe's Autobox & Right Resolution CIC have developed a Training Academy to give young people leaving care the opportunity to learn key skills in the Vehicle Repair Industry.
A Conversation with Joe
What made you want to get involved with Right Resolution?
I wanted to help young people have a career and give them some life skills.
What has the experience been like so far?
It’s been hard at times - sometimes challenging, but worth it.
You said it’s been hard, what’s made you want to keep wanting to help?
My upbringing. I was 17 on my own so I know what it is like to have no parents because I had no parents. But it easier for me then to now because there is more peer pressure now. They pull on my heart strings and I just want to help them. If in 10 years, I can go to a body shop and see one of these lads in a skilled job I'd be proud because I’d know that we done that and it'll make it worth it. So if we can help a couple then we will.
What value do you think work experience like this will add to a young care leavers future?
Skills, it’s all about skills. Anything. Life skills, a talent, something you can specialise in. If you got a good trade, it works. Because we aren't all going to go to university, so it is important to have the skills to get into works. My dad said get a skill, you can leave the trade at any time and come back at any time. But, you just got to try.
